Proud to be part of the Lewes Food Banks record breaking collection last weekend. As it says, in the paper, almost 400 volunteers spent 36 hours collecting a record breaking 7,002 items for Lewes’ three food banks. 13 choirs, seven panto casts, six bands plus the town’s football, rugby and hockey clubs all took part. What a result ✊️

With more notice than usual and by popular demand our Supermarket Sweep Tour has been extended! 🪕🥁We’ll be helping support the Lewes Food Bank outside Aldi Sat 12th at 12pm.

The food bank smashed it last time with a staggering 5661 items of food and household items donated (the previous high was 4790). Let’s see if we can beat that and help get food on the table for everyone this Xmas

We’ll be dusting off the sleigh bells with our usual shambolic standards and mixing it up with some old Xmas favs like Rudolph the red nose rain deer #rocknroll 🤘

7 extraordinary days on the road with #lightshipgreta
An abundance of highs and lows. 12 -15 miles a day on average. It was hard and wonderful beyond belief. Pushing/pulling/drumming with this phenomenal bunch of humans has been an immense privilege. Every one of them took holiday from their jobs or studies to make this happen. We went through some pretty cold hearted places and some extraordinarily warm and welcoming places. The met police used intimidation and bullying tactics despite our protest being legal and authorised. On Thursday they delayed us by 2 hours so by dusk we were 3 miles off our destination. It was raining, getting dark, halfway up a hill with police vans tailing us. If we stopped anywhere without permission it would be game over and it was too dangerous continue in the dark. We pulled in to a driveway to discuss options.. The driveway belonged to a travellers community who welcomed us with open arms.
Next day we came through south London and the reception just got warmer and warmer. Thankyou Brixton, your welcome was The Best!! The euphoria of reaching London was immense

We’re reposting and supporting @lucyogdenceramics and the XR team that are bravely pulling/pushing ‘Greta’ (the lighthouse ship) from Brighton to London to help raise awareness and press our government into waking up and taking action. The team are covering a hard 7-10 miles a day with a large structure with tiny wheels. The footage looks biblical. The following is from Lucy’s post:

The climate crisis hasn't gone away, the outlook hasn't improved. I think we're all aware of this but the immediate horrors so many have to cope with, the pandemic and the utter balls up the government has made of dealing with it, the ongoing murderous atrocities we see against black people in USA which has awakened our understanding of the injustices and systemic racism that exists here, and there is much else to be focused on, that Must be focused on, that diverts us from the biggest crisis of all. Humanity has never faced what we are facing now. As @david_attenborough said "Never before have we had such an awareness of what we are doing to the planet and never before have we had the power to do something about that."
It's overwhelming beyond belief. For me, when I feel hopeless and helpless I have found action is the way through. So I joined @extinctionrebellionbrighton samba band (literally, they'll take anyone 🤣🥁🤣) and I'm walking/pushing/pulling @lightshipgreta from Brighton to London and banging my newly decorated drum along the way. Many many people have suggested it and I am mad but the way I see it, it is a beautiful analogy. Greta the lightship will be sounding the alarm, reminding people of the need to get our government and world leaders to make the changes that only they can in order to minimise the damage to our children's and grandchildren's future. She (the lightship) is Big and Heavy, it will be hard, maybe we won't succeed but the crisis we are facing will be far far harder.
Greta's journey starts tomorrow with a procession in Brighton where there will be a day of protest and raising of awareness with @officialbrightonblm

We’ll be #busking outside TESCO on Saturday (not Waitrose) to help the food bank with their appeal to feed school children over the summer holidays.

Don’t shop at Tesco? Come on down anyway with a donation (if you can) and enjoy the din!

The food bank are looking for healthy option foods for the children, so things like savoury crackers, dried fruit packs, mini raisins and juice in cartons (not from fridge). Please bring what you can.

We’ve been going through the archives during lockdown. Here’s one from our 1000 Watt freak-out at Lewes Town Hall back in ‘68. Most of the bands playing that night quickly faded into musical oblivion. Whoever heard of the ridiculously named "Pink Floyd" again? For the Kevs this early gig marked a pivotal moment. Within the next decade we would rack up double digit sales in Yugoslavia before, on very flimsy charges, Marshall Tito banned us as "enemies of music and sartorial elegance".
